Good Morning! In reading today's Psalm, I am compelled to share with you something that I am not proud of. Last night I allowed my frustration and my anger to get the better of me and I lashed out at my oldest daughter. I was not in the mood to deal with her lack of patience and when she threw a little attitude my way, I snapped. I screamed at her out of my own hurt and frustration and immediately felt ashamed. My youngest looked at me for a moment, and in her pure perception of the situation, asked me if I was sad. Yes, I was, incredibly sad. Before time slipped away, I apologized to Meghan and asked for her forgiveness. She immediately said "I forgive you, Mommy." UGHHH! What a shot to the heart, and the ego. How easy it is to fail, but difficult to acknowledge it and ask for forgiveness. Asaph talks about pride and envy and the way of the wicked, and how easily he could have fallen far into that world. But he continues on to set his thoughts back on the LORD and his focus where it should be.
"When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered,
I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into your glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Those who are far from you will perish;
you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds."
Psalm 73:21-28
